La Habra, CA — It was an emotional Senior Night for the Class of 2024, as the Raiders competed for all four quarters against a physical and disciplined Portola High Bulldogs squad. The Raiders achieved victory with a 34-24 performance, improving their record to 3-1 on the 2024 campaign. A dominating rushing attack was the focal point for the Raiders offense, and the Sonora defense secured the victory with two key interceptions and a fumble recovery. On offense, the rushing attack from Senior Nick Fernandez, Senior Tyler Robertson, and Junior Anthony Abad proved too much for the Bulldogs dense, as the Raiders amassed 235 yards on the ground. Abad led the way with 118 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. Robertson had 6 carries for 59 yards and a key touchdown to secure the victory, while Fernandez chipped in 57 yards on 13 carries. Senior Quarterback Landon Martin proved efficient in the air, completing 5 of 9 passes for 77 yards including a 25 yard touchdown pass to Junior Brady Ackerman. Ackerman had two catches for 36 yards, and Junior Olin Morales Hyder also had two catches for 27 yards. The Raiders held the Portola offense to fewer than 300 yards on the night, allowing 140 passing yards and 158 rushing yards. Sonora forced the Bulldogs to commit three turnovers on the night, with Junior Luke Crowder and Senior Steve Peru coming up with key interceptions. Sophomore Alexsay Nazaroff added to the turnover party, forcing a fumble that Junior Olin Morales Hyder returned to the 1 yard line. Nazaroff led the Raiders defense with 9 tackles, and Senior Linebacker Gabe Bagdanoff provided another 6 tackles for the Raiders defense. Sonora hits the road this upcoming Friday night, September 15th, for a 7:00 PM kickoff against California High School (0-4) in Whittier. The Raiders look to finish their non-league schedule strong in their last contest prior to the bye week. We will see you there! #OurWay
