Ojai, CA — When Nordhoff High football team’s longest wait for a win was over, the emotions were palpable. Dillon Lowen wasn’t afraid to let his players see how much his first win as Nordhoff head coach meant. “We had a really emotional week,” Lowen said. Sol McGarey set school records for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in a game to lead Nordhoff to a 57-22 win over visiting Valencia-Trinity Classical Academy on Friday night. The senior running back ran for 405 yards and six touchdowns on just 18 carries. He also had an 11-yard reception. “He was great,” Lowen said. “They stacked a lot of people in the box. Trinity was pretty dang big. They had some great size and speed.” Sol McGarey set school record for rushing yards and rushing TDs in a game during Nordhoff's win Friday night. McGarey broke Isaac Seymour's rushing yards mark of 307, set against Pacifica in 2011, and also the TD record held by two players: Josh Hawkins with five against Santa Clara in 1993 and Nacho Vega with five against St. Bonaventure in 1991. Nordhoff entered the game with the longest losing streak in Ventura County. The win, which broke a 15-game losing streak, was Nordhoff’s first since a 48-0 win over Carpinteria on Oct. 15, 2021. “We only graduated a couple of seniors, so all these guys came back and kept pushing,” Lowen said. “As a group, it meant a lot to us. These kids just deserved it. They really did.” Weston Haley also threw a TD pass to Adam Featherstone for Nordhoff (1-3), which travels to Acton-Vasquez this Friday.
