Irvine, CA — First of all, thank you parent drivers who drove your own student athletes and to those who just recently got approved. We took 18 players to Crean Lutheran and EVERYBODY got to play this afternoon. The match came down to 2 last tie-breaker sets, which would have given us a 10-8 win. We would have lost on game count had we tied 9-9, but it was an exciting finish with some good effort in both singles and doubles....Way more proud of the come back efforts than worried about losing 2 TB's. Good that we learn from these early in the season and not in a Trinity League match. We were losing 4-8 going into round 3 and almost won! That's a great finishing effort. Kudos to Bryanna Noorian, who quietly fought back from 1-5 (when we were all watching 3rd round doubles sets) and forced a tie-breaker at 5-5. And, at the same time, Chiara Manta won her last 2 games in a back and forth set of singles to win an important set in the 3rd round. Elliana Castro won an early singles match in round #2 6-2 which was our only other singles win for the day. Doubles ruled the roost today, winning 6 of 9 sets played, 1 TB away from taking 7 wins. At line 2, Kinsley Moore and Christina Nama won 7-5 in an exciting set. At line #3, Kate Layk won once with Alex Marsh, as did Bree Johnson. Alex gets MVP honors for winning 100% of her sets played today (2 for 2). Line #1 doubles, triple teamed by Peyton Salas, Arena Wagner and Riley Godber was flawless, winning all 3 sets across the board, with each player playing 2 sets, one with each of the other players....and receiving MVP honors as well. Great job today. Our job as JV coaches is to try and win Trinity League each year, AND prepare girls to get ready for Varsity tennis in a year or two. We win league and CIF titles with strong doubles play. We will continue subbing in as may young players as possible so that by the team league play starts, we can put our top 3 singles players and top 3 doubles players into the critical matches (typically MD and SM). Next up: JV vs Laguna Beach on Tuesday, Sept. 5th at home.
