San Juan Capistrano, CA — With two players pulled up to play on the CRIMSON squad and several others at M.U.N., our GOLD squad regrouped from a 1 - 17 shellacking less than 24 hours earlier and posted a well earned 10 - 8 victory against the Canyon High Comanches. We’ll done ladies!!! The score was 4-2 after round 1; 7 - 5 after round 2, and we won 3 sets in round 3, which were all needed, to win the match 10 - 8. Had we lost our last set, we would have lost on game count w a 9 - 9 tie. So super kudos to MVP’s Grace Helfer and Josie Andersen for closing out the match with a 6 - 4 win and giving us that 10th set win! This was Grace and Josie’s 2nd win of the afternoon. The other crucial (albeit earlier) set was the 2nd round tie-breaker by MVP’s Fiona Huhn and Emma Withycombe. They won their 2nd TB set to put us up 7-5 going into the 3rd round; which I pointed out to them was probably going to be the ultimate difference at the end of the day - it was. Well done. MVP Emily Meyer won both sets played, one with Emma Doss and the other with Mia DeWames. Great big thanks to both Emma and Mia for rushing over to JSerra after playing in the earlier match at San Clemente, keeping us from forfeiting a few sets, but more importantly, giving most everyone a chance to play 3 times today. THANK YOU! Allie Kraiss and Abi Damron picked up a win in the top half of the draw, which was tough, as we only got 3 wins in 9 sets on courts 1,2,&3. We won this match on courts 4,5,&6, which shows depth and solid doubles play, at which you have all worked so hard. We got 7 of 9 sets on those courts, including wins against a tough player from their JV squad with a very fast serve. Lest I forget, 2 more MVP’s: Sydney Veazey and Emily Volk won ALL 3 SETS played today = a hat trick in ice hockey. Way to go!!! Next up: Monday, Sept. 25th B&C squads at Aliso Niguel, 2:30 pm.
