San Juan Capistrano, CA — In an all doubles format, both squads battled hard in the heat today, in a back and forth match. It’s good that nobody had to play singles. SMCHS had homecoming dance tonight, so they didn’t have 12 girls….. Unfortunately, that kept several of our players from playing 2 times. Sorry about that…. We couldn’t get any sets against their #4 team. On the top 3 courts, they had 2 teams who won 2 sets. Their #3 team, Kayla and Audrey, trained here in our T3Tennis junior development program, only Flo and Boxi beat them. Jessica and Sydney knocked off their top team 6-4 in the opening round. Unlike yesterday’s match, we got blanked in tie-breaker sets, losing both. SM forced both those by breaking our serves at 5-4 (: Reversing those makes this match 8-7 in our favor….that’s how close this 3 hour match was this afternoon. MVP status goes to those who won 2 sets and those who only got to play 1 set and won it: Jessica Jenkins (2) w Sydney Shaw (2), Boxi Gambol (2) one each w Jackie Thielman and Flo Michael, Fiona Huhn who won w Emma Withycombe in round #2, and Lauren Kim who won w Josie Andersen in the opening round. Well done! Next up: Friday, Oct. 13th at Fountain Valley, 2:30pm. A & B travel squads.
