San Juan Capistrano, CA — Heartbreak better learned at the Frosh Soph level than CIF Championship Finals, been there done that = no fun. We had to win 10-8, as game count was 3 off with the tie. However, we previously lost to Capo 12-6, so this was a big improvement. AND, we are going to play them one more time in 2 weeks…. We were fairly well balanced in this all doubles match, winning 5 sets in the top half of the draw, and 4 in the lower half. We were 100% at line #2 where Ella Joutz and Flo Michael defeated all 3 of the top Capo doubles teams, earning MVP honors. At line 4, the trio of Abi Damron, Mia DeWames and Emma Doss took turns partnering and demolishing teams 4,5,&6: 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 for MVP honors. Jessica Jenkins and Sydney Shaw won 2 of 3 sets played, while Milan Jepsen and Josie Andersen picked up a victory on court 6 in the final round. Back and forth, this match was tied 3-3 at round 1; Capo up 7-5 at end of line 2, and after a well played, tough tie-breaker loss on court 1 w Jackie Thielman and Lauren Kim giving great effort, we came up short by 3 games :(. We won 3 of 5 tie-breakers this afternoon, which is a good trend, but dropped 2 sets 4-6….that’s how close it was. Frosh Soph has 3 more chances to set a FS team record of 6 wins for the season: Sage Hill next Saturday, Capo rematch on the 27th, with season finale on Saturday the 28th home vs San Clemente.
