Oak Park, CA — Junior receiver Tyler Hoff led Buena with three receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Junior James Blanks had 92 yards from scrimmage, including 17 carries for 76 yards. Junior Elijah Paris completed 10 of 24 passes for 145 yards and two TDs. “Our inexperience in varsity games showed,” Buena coach Ryan Bolland said. “We didn’t play with a lot of poise.” Fulmer started the second half and sparked the Oak Park passing game. Fulmer’s 58-yard strike to Ethan Abergel set up a 1-yard Oliver Gonzalez TD run, which pushed the lead to 20-0 on the first possession after halftime. “I think Johnny played amazing,” Mosely said. “He knows what he’s doing.” Hoff, Buena’s quick junior playmaker, threatened to pull the Bulldogs back into the game. His 86-yard catch and run put Buena on the board with 4:31 left in the third quarter. “He can move,” Bolland said. Hoff also added a late 14-yard touchdown pass from Paris in the final minute of the game. In between, Fulmer’s 46-yard scoring strike to Mastrippolito put the game away with 6:43 left to play. “I think we have a lot to grow from,” Mosely said “We have a lot of potential. As long as we take care of each other, take care of ourselves, I think we can combat anyone.” The difference in the game may have been the teams’ third-down efficiency. While Oak Park converted third and longs on two scoring drives, Buena was 0 for 10 on third down. “As good as I think our defense played all night, we were probably 0 for 4 in getting off the field in third and (long), which is unreal,” Bolland said. “But we improved as the game went on, especially defensively.”
