San Diego, CA — After a sluggish start to the game the Vista Longhorns turned a scoreless 1st quarter into a 36-6 victory yesterday at Lincoln High School. Vista's first score of the game came compliments of a scoop and score on a linebacker blitz. The play covered 54 yards and gave the Horns an 8-0 lead midway through the 2nd quarter on the made PAT. But Vista's quest for points was just beginning. After an interception, Vista put together a 2-play 64-yard scoring drive, ending in a 57-yard touchdown run. to give the Horns a 14-0 lead, as the point after failed. The scrappy Hornets returned fire and scored on 48 -yard pass to tighten the contest @ 14-6 with about 1 minute remaining in the half. In what can be termed as the most impressive drive of the day, the Longhorns traversed 62 yards in 3 plays. The extra point gave the Horns a 22-6 advantage going into the halftime. The key play of the drive was a 38-yard run and the heady wherewithal of the Vista runner to get out of bounds, stopping the clock with 5.7 seconds remaining in the half. On the very next play, Vista scored as the clock hit 0.00. In the 2nd half, the Horns bend but don't break defense toyed with the Hornets who only threatened the inspired Vista club once. The 2nf half featured many outstanding defensive efforts by both of the Longhorn defensive units. Next up for the Horns is a game the features an undefeated Santee Ravens team sitting atop of the standings at 2-0. The Ravens have won their first 2 games by a combined total of 4 points.
