Irvine, CA — Foothill Varsity took the field as the sun was setting on a clear and cold night at Irvine High. JV and Frosh/Soph had won their respective games and the Varsity squad looked to continue the winning ways. Jacob Garcia started off the scoring in the 9th minute off an assist from Tyler Valdez that slipped through the center backs. Garcia evaded the keeper and finished to put the Knights ahead 1-0. Garcia then scored his second of the night in the 15th minute on a beautiful team goal that was ultimately assisted by Kevin Ambrocio. The Knights continued to attack and put the Vaqueros under pressure but couldn't find the back of the net until the 51st minute when Francisco "JJ" Arroyo received the ball outside of the 18 from Garcia and he scored when the keeper bobbled the shot. The Vaqueros' goalkeeper kept his team in the game and was under constant pressure from the Knights offense. Foothill was unlucky to only have 3 goals to show for their effort but it was a good opening to the season. The Knights' net minder, Josh Picker, secured the shutout in his first Varsity outing. The Knights look to keep their winning ways as they take on city rivals Tustin High School at home on Wednesday at 7pm.
