Laguna Hills, CA — Foothill traveled to Laguna Hills High School on a clear and cold December evening. Players that had been missing due to nagging injury were back and Foothill was able to take the field with confidence. The Knights have improved this season as we have played and trained together. The boys continue to attack with fervor and put teams under pressure. Tonight was no different. The Knights opened the scoring in the 8th minute with Matthew Mendoza finding the back of the net off a ball sent back across the mouth of goal by Tyler Reid. Garrett Zehner scored the next goal 2 minutes later on an assist from Keven Ambrocio. In the 32nd minute, Laguna Hills scored on a counter attack when they found the weak side of the field. The Knights quickly got back to work with Tyler Valdez gathering the ball in front of goal and finding the back of the net on a solid shot. Tyler wrapped up the Knights' scoring with a great individual effort, starting with a give and go with Garrett Zehner deep in our own half. With players literally throwing themselves at him and trying to drag him down, Valdez scored from 30 yards out to beat the keeper. Special recognition goes to Miles Teranishi by locking down their primary threat, a fast outside winger. Defenders Dylan Hicks and Reid also put in strong shifts to negate Laguna Hills' counterattacks. Zehner, Mendoza, and Kevin Ambrocio put in strong offensive showings with the Hawks doing everything in their power to keep them from goal.
