Fullerton, CA — The Knights traveled to Fullerton on Friday evening to take on the Indians on their home field. Foothill met Fullerton twice last season in the Marina Tournament, losing the first contest by a score of 0-5 and then fighting back to the semi final but still losing 0-1 in the last 2 minutes of play. Foothill has been improving as a squad so far this season and looked to steal a win from the favored Fullerton Indians. Fullerton had the majority of possession in the first half but both teams had justifiable and dangerous opportunities in front of goal. Kevin Ambrocio was played a beautiful ball in and worked himself into a 1v1 versus the keeper but was unable to finish. The Fullerton defender made a clutch tackle to deny his shot. The Indians kept the Knights under pressure for most of the half but strong defensive play by the back line, Tyler Reid, Dylan Hicks, and Kai Futagaki, as well the keeper, Josh Picker kept Fullerton scoreless. Foothill changed formation in the second half and began to press Fullerton and create chances in dangerous spaces. The Knights had the lion's share of attacking opportunities in the second half. Lucas Regan was unlucky to not finish when his shot ricocheted off the far side post. Matthew Mendoza, Garret Zehner, and Kevin Ambrocio created problems for Fullerton and were unlucky not to have finished on different occasions. Jacob Garcia was clutch in the midfield in the second half and adjusted the tempo of play to keep Fullerton off balance. All in all, the Knights were unlucky not to come away with the win. This team is playing more and more like a unit and the busy preseason schedule appears to be paying off. Foothill returns to Mater Dei after Christmas to play Santa Barbara 12/28 and Pacifica (Oxnard) 12/29. We then enter into league and conference play after the new year. Come out and support Knights Mens Soccer. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
