Goshen, NY — KINGSTON, N.Y. - The Kingston High boys soccer team will be playing in the Class AAA state playoffs for the first time after claiming the Section 9 title with an emotional 2-1 overtime win over Middletown The Tigers drew a first-round bye in the state playoffs and will await the winner of the opening-round game between Sections 1 and 4. Kingston's game will be held at Roosevelt High on Saturday at a time to be determined With just 1:57 elapsed in the overtime, Max Maouris tipped in a ball from teammate Rafael Castillo to give the Tigers (11-4-1) the victory over Middletown Thursday night at Goshen High. Third-seeded Kingston beat No. 2 Newburgh Free Academy 3-0 in the Class AAA semifinals before upending No. 4 Middletown in the title game. With Middletown leading 1-0, Kingston's Andrew Foster headed a ball from Castillo into the net to tie it at 1-1 in the second half. The Tigers wasted little time grabbing the school's first sectional crown with Maouris' game-winner. "I am so proud of this team," Kingston coach Dan Hoffay said. "They never give up, work together and have a great team spirit. It's a privilege to be part of their journey. Hoffay said this is the first 10-win season for the Kingston boys' soccer program since 1984. "Ironically, the coach of that team was the legendary Ron Chiasson, who coached Kingston soccer for many years and also coached me at a young age," Hoffay said.
