Santa Barbara, CA — The Lions traveled to Santa Barbara to play the #1 team from the Channel Island league, San Marcos, who earned a 15-2 record this year. KOach Kirk adds, "We never really know the strength of the CI league teams because we do not have 'like' opponents. Two of their girls have 6+ UTR's is all we knew. We traveled far, battled well, ate well and had fun coming home on the bus. Great day to be a LION." Ellie and Jazmine swept all 3, but, after getting down 0-3 in first round to the Royals #1 team. Scarlett took 2 of her 3 sets, losing a very hard-fought round one match 6-7 tiebreaker. Hailey Klein was victorious in a pivotal round one match at line #3, 7-5.Neeka and Olivia won their set in round one also, giving the Lions a 4-2 lead at close of 1st round. Then it appeared that we would most likely be at a 9-9 tie and have to go to game count. San Marcos #1 player, strangely enough, removed herself from the third round which enabled the Lions to take the 10th set over a sub, to insure the victory. "I loved how the team really rallied together, behind Scarlett after the 1st round with encouragement. This helped he rebound with 6-1, 6-0 victories" added KOach.
