Tallahassee, FL — TALLAHASSEE β€” Two wins down, three to go for Choctaw. 🏈 The latest victory was easily the most impressive for the Big Green, winners of seven straight and on to the Region 1-3S finals for the second straight year. Cole Tabb rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns, and the defense was again "lights out," as third-seeded Choctaw stunned second-seeded Lincoln 38-7 in a running-clock affair that began in the third quarter. Tabb was sidelined with an injury in previous games. Yes, that Lincoln, the same crew that beat Niceville 28-14 at Eagle Stadium earlier in the year. Lincoln played its best ball at the beginning of the season. Choctaw is playing its best ball now, the Big Green outscoring foes 290-78 with three shutouts by varsity during the win streak. It was Jesse Winslette and Isaiah Johnson who got the scoring started Friday night, the two connecting on a 39-yard touchdown to remind Lincoln that you can't stack the box against Tabb and just call it a day. Then Tabb took over. The Stanford-bound running back and the reigning USA Today 3S Player of the Year has 1,694 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season after posting 2,753 yards and 26 scores as a junior. "Our game plan was to get Cole going," Choctaw head coach Frank Beasley said. "He's the best running back in the state. And our offensive line continues to play great." Defensively, the varsity unit held Lincoln in the negative. The secondary's clamp-down defense allowed the defensive line and linebackers to get consistent pressure. The result was Choctaw winning the field position battle all night. Justin Whidbee added an interception, and Sam King added a field goal to cap the banner night for special teams. "The defense is playing at a high level right now," Beasley said. Now the Big Green will practice on Thanksgiving with top-seeded St. Augustine waiting at home in the Elite 8. St. Augustine has faced zero adversity amid a 12-0 campaign. "We're excited, and we love that we're practicing on Thanksgiving," Beasley said. "We know what they can do at their place, and we know we'll be underdogs once again. We relish that role."
