Redwood City, CA — The Lady Ravens welcomed local middle school youth to cheer them on at our 1st Youth Night. The night was kicked off by JV Girls Basketball players- Ally Petit and Kaitlyn Schernig (Fr)- singing the National Anthem. After the 1st quarter, Sequoia trailed Capuchino 2-6 after a pair of free throws from Center Desi Huffer (Jr) saw the bottom of the net. In the 2nd quarter, Sequoia responded with 9 points to Capuchino’s 7. Ball movement was key as 4 different Lady Ravens scored, including a 3-pointer by Forward Jenna Sichlinger (Sr). The 3rd quarter saw momentum start to shift with Sequoia’s determination and grit to stay committed on the defensive side of the ball. Sequoia started the half with 6 straight defensive stops and tied the game with a bank layup by Forward Josie Ollmann (Sr). A pair of triples by Forward Jada Crockett (Jr) and Guard Jocelyn Bracamontes (Jr) saw the Lady Ravens take a 21-18 lead headed into the 4th. The rest of the game was a back-and-forth, seesaw affair. Capuchino held Sequoia to 2 points in the 4th while scoring 5 points to keep it tied at the end of regulation. In the first OT, both teams were held in a stalemate with neither team scoring or attempting a free throw. In the 2nd OT, Capuchino scored on a beautiful backdoor play. Guard Mikayla Gee (Sr) came up with a huge steal and transition score to tie the game at 25. In the 3rd OT, Sequoia’s defense suffocated Capuchino holding them scoreless while Jada Crockett hit a big time 3-pointer to take the lead. Sequoia is now 7-2 in league play and shares a claim with Westmoor at the top of the PAL Ocean Division. Come out on Friday for Sequoia Senior Night; Ceremony will begin at the conclusion of the JV Boys game with an expected tip-off at 6:15pm. Sequoia takes on El Camino.
