Bethlehem, PA — From the Standard Speaker Kaitlyn Bindas (29) and Sophia Shults (24) teamed for 53 points as fast-starting Hazleton Area pounced on host Bethlehem Liberty for a 73-53 victory in non-league girls’ basketball on Saturday. Bindas scored 14, Shults added seven and Alexis Reimold had six of her 10 points in the first quarter to lead Hazleton Area’s 31-12 blitz to start its first game since Dec. 16. Shults tacked on eight more points in the second quarter as the Lady Cougars extended their advantage to 47-26 by halftime on the way to their fifth win six non-league games. They then went 11-of-12 from the foul line in the second half to seal the deal. A. Kopgtskie and A. Davis led the Hurricanes with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Hazleton Area will open Wyoming Valley Conference play against Tunkhannock at home on Wednesday in a make-up game from Friday. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m.
