Tunkhannock, PA — From the Standard Speaker If Joe Gavio was worried about his Hazleton Area girls' basketball team peeking ahead to Monday's showdown at Crestwood, the Lady Cougars' 27-6 first-quarter run at Tunkhannock on Friday quickly allayed those fears. Sophia Benyo scored seven points and Alexis Reimold added six in the early burst, the catalyst to Hazleton Area's 72-28 rout of the Tigers in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 contest. Sophia Shults finished with 12 points to lead the Lady Cougars. Olivia Williams was right behind with 11, Benyo had nine and Reimold chipped in eight. In all, 16 Hazleton Area players shared in the scoring. Winners of 15 straight, the Lady Cougars next will be in action, Monday, at Crestwood. Hazleton Area won the teams' first meeting in overtime.
