Huntington Beach, CA — The Oilers were wearing their white away jerseys despite playing in front of their family and in their home stadium when they took on the Knights in the HBHS Turf Tourney. Unfortunately, the slew of games during this tournament and in the weeks leading up to it, finally took their toll on the beleaguered Knights. The Knights and Santa Ana Valley were tied with 19 points at the end of group play and were forced to settle the tie with Kicks from the Mark (Penalty Shootout) The Knights lost the shootout 4-2 and Foothill would play a consolation game vs Huntington Beach at 6pm. The Knights came out sluggish again and they went down by 2 goals early in the first half. The Knights shifted gears in the second half and came out with more energy but gave up another goal in the 52nd minute to go down 3-0. The Knights continued to attack and finally got on the scoreboard via the penalty mark as Garrett Zehner converted. Foothill continued to attack but did not have any more goals to show for it. Huntington Beach recorded their final goal in the last minute of play off a free kick outside the box. The tournament was a good experience despite this result. JV players helped fill in the gaps and this game gave players a chance to step up and compete. We need to get healthy and stay that way in order to accomplish our goals this season. With Fullerton, Mater Dei, Santa Barbara, and Pacifica still on the schedule prior to league, the Knights will continue to be tested.
