Hazleton, PA — From the Standard Speaker Tournament Most Valuable Player Alexis Reimold and freshman Kaitlyn Bindas sparked a first-quarter surge with five points apiece, the jump start to Hazleton Area’s 46-29 win over Nazareth in the Lady Cougar Tip-off Tournament championship game, Saturday night, at Hughie McGeehan Gymnasium. Bindas then knocked down her second and third three-pointers of the night and Olivia Williams added another triple in the second quarter as the Lady Cougars extended a five-point lead to 29-17 by halftime en route a second straight title in their own tournament. While Hazleton Area (2-0) managed only nine points in the third period, the Eagles scored just six to hamper their comeback bid. Bindas finished with a game-high 13 points and Reimold had 12 for the winners. Williams just missed doubles with nine. Peyton Long topped Nazareth (1-1) with 10 points. Alex Davis contributed eight. The Lady Cougars will play host to Scranton in another non-league contest on Tuesday.
