Westborough, MA — After back-to-back losses to Concord-Carlisle and Shrewsbury, Wachusett returned to league play on Saturday night with a Roy Conference game against Grafton. At 6:04 of the first period, sophomore Caden Lane put Wachusett on the scoreboard first after his brother, senior, Stone Lane, passed the puck off the referee's skate to senior, Clark Gardula, who fed the puck to the slot where Caden one-timed it past the goalie. Jason Flaherty continued his 9-game point streak and put Wachusett up 2-0 at the 2:19 mark of the second period on a power play. Cody Penniman slid the puck to Parker Meyer who found Flares on the back post and he sniped it home. At 13:17 of the 2nd period, Grafton was called for a major penalty for boarding, putting Wachusett on a 5-minute power play. Just when it looked like Wachusett would put the game out of reach, a Grafton player poked a puck into the neutral zone and outraced the defense, scoring their first goal with 33 seconds left in the 2nd. Wachusett failed to score on the man-advantage and Grafton would tie the game at 2 in the 3rd period after sophomore Trevor Staiti made a handful of phenomenal saves before a rebound was bounced over the sprawled out goaltender. With 2:57 to play, Parker Meyer would win a puck down low below the goal line and centered it to Matt Bjorkman who fought off the defenders in front and netted the game winner. Goalie, Trevor Staiti, improved to 2 and 0 on the season, making 16 saves. Wachusett improved to 6 and 3 on the season.
