Westborough, MA — Wachusett remained undefeated in the Roy Conference as they erupted for 8 goals en route to an 8-5 win over Groton Dunstable. The game was tight in the first period. Matt Bjorkman would put Wachusett up 1-0 at 4:26 of the first with a goal assisted by Caden Lane. G-D would tie the game at 1 about 5 minutes later, but Jason Flaherty put the Mountaineers ahead at the 14 minute mark with a goal assisted by senior defenseman Nick Brousseau. Leading 2-1 entering the 2nd period, Flaherty would score again just 19 seconds into the period assisted by Brousseau and Cody Penniman. Just 52 seconds later, sophomore Ryan Flaherty would score his first career goal crashing the net and banging it in for an unassisted goal giving Wachusett a 4-1 lead. G-D would pull to within 4-2 at 9:47 of the 2nd, but junior Shea Whalen scored his first career goal at 10:22 of the second in another scrum around the net. Assists on that goal went to Caden Lane and Matt Brousseau. Lane would add another goal at 13:43 to extend Wachusett's lead to 6-2 at the 2nd intermission. G-D would score first in the 3rd to make it 6-3, but Wachusett's Tanner Watkins would score his first career goal at the 8:45 mark. This was a shorthanded goal assisted by Bjorkman and Parker Meyer. G-D would score two quick goals at 11:38 and 13:23 to make it 7-5, but sophomore Matt Brousseau scored his 1st career goal at 14:52 to finish the scoring and give Wachusett the important 3-goal victory, 8-5. Cody Penniman was credited with an assist on the goal. Sophomore Trevor Staiti and freshman Kevin Shaw combined to stop 20 G-D shots in the win.
