Worcester, MA — It's always an exciting day of hockey when Wachusett and Auburn are invited to the DCU Center in Worcester to play before the Worcester Railers game. Auburn would get off to a hot start in this one scoring the first 2 goals of the game taking a 2-0 lead at the 2:46 mark of the second period. But, something sparked Wachusett as they scored 3 goals in a span of 3 minutes and 28 seconds to take a 3-2 lead into the 2nd intermission. Ryan Flaherty got Wachusett on the board as he worked hard in front of the net to poke home a rebound of an Ethan Bennett shot from the point. Just 25 seconds later, Jason Flaherty would hustle to the back wall and win a puck. He centered it to the trailing Cody Penniman who one-timed it to the back of the net. Then Parker Meyer would score his first of the game at the 7:23 mark of the 3rd assisted by Thomas Willman and Travis Laidlaw. Leading 3-2 in the third, play was back and forth before Auburn would score to tie the game at 3 with just 6:23 to play. Just 42 seconds later, Parker Meyer would race down the left side and fire a wrist shot over the glove of the Auburn goalie to score the eventual game-winner, unassisted. Trevor Staiti played solid between the pipes stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced. The win was the 10th of the season for the Mountaineers which gives them a berth into the Division 1 State Tournament. Wachusett is 10 and 4 on the season.
