Worcester, MA — In a battle of the top 2 teams in the Roy Conference, Grafton was looking for revenge after Wachusett had won the first matchup 3-2 back in January. Grafton showed up hungry and ready to play as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 8 minutes of the game. Senior Jason Flaherty would get Wachusett on the board on a shorthanded goal with just 5 minutes to play in the first. The period would end with Grafton up 3-1. Grafton would score just 4 minutes into the second period to take a 4-1 lead and chase Wachusett's starter Trevor Staiti from the net. Staiti was undefeated on the season heading into this matchup. Wachusett got a little spark and would score the next 2 goals. First, Thomas Willman sniped a water bottle shot at 10:44 of the second on a power play with the assist going to Jason Flaherty. Cody Penniman would score just 22 seconds later on an assist by Jason Flaherty so Wachusett would trail 4-3 heading into the final frame. After 9 minutes of back and forth hockey, Grafton would extend their let to 5-3 at the 9:06 mark of the 3rd. Wachusett would not give up as junior Tanner Watkins would score at 11:16 of the third, assisted by Jason Flaherty, again pulling Wachusett to within 1. Grafton would score the final goal of the game with 1:59 to play to finish the scoring at 6-4. Wachusett drops to 5 and 1 in the Roy Conference with the loss.
