Marlborough, MA — With the Roy Conference Championship on the line, the Wachusett Hockey Team traveled to Nashoba. A win would make the Mountaineers 7 and 1 in the conference and earn them the title. A loss would have Wachusett fall to 6 and 2 in the conference and a Co-Champion with Grafton. Nashoba was up for this game scoring just 11 seconds in on a shot that deflected off a Mountaineer defenseman's stick. Wachusett would tie the game at 1 at the 6:43 mark with Cody Penniman scoring a goal assisted by Tanner Watkins and Matt Bjorkman. Nashoba would score with just over 1 minute remaining in the first to make it 2-1 at the first intermission. Bjorkman would score just 2 minutes into the 2nd to tie the score at 2. Penniman and Travis Laidlaw would get the assists. Nashoba would take the lead back at 10:07 before Wachusett would tie it 3-3 on Bjorkman's 2nd goal of the night assisted by Penniman. This was a shorthanded goal. Nashoba would score the first 2 goals of the third period in just 3 minutes and 20 seconds to take a 5-3 lead, but Wachusett did not quit. Jason Flaherty scored at 6:18 assisted by Caden Lane to pull within 1. Then Penniman would tie the game at 5 with just 3:32 left assisted by Flaherty and Thomas Willman. With under 2 minutes to play, Wachusett was called for tripping and Nashoba would score the game-winner with just 20 seconds to play. The loss drops Wachusett to 12 and 6 on the season heading into the Central Mass Tournament.
