Burnt Hills, NY — BHBL Spartan JV Baseball stayed in it until the end, but Shen pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Monday. The game was tied at four in the top of the sixth Shen drew a walk, scoring one run. Jake Muller collected three hits in three at bats in the loss. Muller singled in the fifth inning, singled in the third, and singled in the seventh to lead the Spartans. Shen were the first to get on the board, scoring 1 run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. BHBL made the score 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth after Muller singled, scoring one run, Tucker Sunkes singled, scoring two runs, and a steal of second, with a delayed steal of home scored the go-ahead run. Shen took the lead back in the top of the sixth, loading the bases and then scoring on a walk. Sam Pezzolesi started on the bump for the Spartans. The right-hander allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out two and walking five. Sunkes went 1-for-4 at the plate as the 3-hole hitter led the team with one run batted in. Charlie Venditti and Muller each stole multiple bases for the Spartans. BHBL piled up 10 stolen bases for the game. The Spartans also turned two double plays on the game, as they were sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Matt Broker made the most plays with seven at First Base. BHBL will travel to Broadalbin-Perth to play the JV Patriots for their next game Tuesday.
