Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — JSerra boys gave SM a rare Trinity League loss in boys JV tennis today, 12-6. According to Corey Fischer, Assoc. AD, when we beat them twice a couple of years ago to win league, it was their first losses ever at this level. Well, 3rd times a charm, we did it again. The win today puts JSerra in first place, and we should stay there next week when we meet Servite, because SM beat them 17-1 last week. The match started out slowly and could have totally gone “the other way”. We were down 1-3 early, but won 2 tie-breakers to even the match at 3-3. Alex Gordon and Michael Aceves came back from 0-4 and 1-5 to win 7-6! At the same time, Kayden Kral fought off 2 set points to break serve and force a tie-breaker, which he won easily. He later went on to win 2 more sets and earned MVP Honors today. Well done. HB Warner also won all 3 singles sets this afternoon: 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 for MVP Honors; arguably the best day of tennis at JSerra in 2 years for HB. Johnny Tavares came in the 3rd round and defeated their #3 player 6-4. The remaining 4 set wins were split evenly between the teams of Jacob LeBrun / Lucas Johnson and Enzo Biundo / Luke Krolikowski. Well done today gentlemen, a true team effort. Next up: Thursday, March 21st vs Mater Dei at Costa Mesa Tennis Center, 3pm. This is an extra, “non-league friendly” match which does not count in league standings.
