Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — Not so much a superiority issue, rather a question of depth - evidenced by the 2 vs 7 lopsided doubles results. We have a young team, with 9 of our guys playing in their 1st or 2nd ever high school match and 2/3 of those are actually beginners, new to tennis. Pleasant surprise to have rookies Robbie Watson and Anson Albertson open with a 6-0 bagel win at line 3 doubles. Declan Hughes and Zach Moncur came close in round 2, losing 5-7 against their #2 team in a closely contested set. But “set of the day” goes to Jason Do and Noah Lau who fought back from 3-5 to win a long tie-breaker set 7-6. Huge comeback, with a bunch of sudden death “no ad” points. Fun times! Niko Abraham took care of their #2 player in round 3. Stand-alone MVP for the day, kudos to Leo Merage who won all 3 sets played: 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. Great job today Leo! Next match: Monday, March 4th at Huntington Beach, 3pm.
