Fairfield, CA — The Vanden JV Vikings hosted Fairfield High School in MEL play on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings were able to escape with a win by the skin of their teeth. The final score was 4-3, with the Vikings plating the winning run in the bottom of the 7th for a walk-off victory. The win improves their record to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in MEL play. Anthony Nelson started the game on the bump for Vanden. He cruised through the first 3 innings of the game allowing 0 runs on 1 base hit. The sophomore struck out 4 Falcons and issued only one walk. He would give way to reliever Caiden Hitchcock. The right-hander pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 0 hits. Although the freshman was able to keep the Falcons out of the hit column, he also issued 6 base on balls. Tim Dumandan came in to clean up a mess and scavenge the win to his credit. He faced 3 batters, threw them strikes, let the defense play and finished the game. On offense the Vikings were led by Lucky Perez and Hayden Book. Perez was 2 for 2 with a double, 2 runs scored and 1 stolen base, his 4th of the season. Book was also 2 for 2, including a single in the bottom of the 7th to spark the walk-off. He added 2 stolen bases as well. The Vikings will meet up again with the Falcons for the finale of their 3-game series on Thursday, 4:00pm at Fairfield High School.
