Fairfield, CA — Vanden won Monday's contest against Will C. Wood 13-4. The Vikings were the first to get on the board in the first when Alex Maushart doubled, scoring one run. Vanden would add to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Jackson Armstrong singled, and Kekoa Grinton hit into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run. A ground out by Cayne Hill extended the Vanden lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Six more Viking runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-3. Isaiah Shahan doubled, scoring three runs, Austin Hammerschmidt singled scoring one run, and Hill hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs. Ryan Cahalan earned the win for Vanden. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Ryhan Solomon-King pitched two innings of zero-run ball for Vanden. He surrendered two hits, striking out three and walking none. Vanden tallied up nine hits. Shahan drove the middle of the lineup, leading Vanden with six runs batted in. He went 2-for-4 on the day. Shahan and Grinton each collected two hits. Vanden collected eight walks for the game. Maushart and Bryce Alcantara led the team with two free passes each. Grinton stole four bases in which Vanden stole six bases in the game. Vanden will travel to Will C. Wood on Wednesday.
