CA — On Thursday, 3/28 the Vanden JV Vikings got the better of the Wildcats from Will C. Wood High School by a score of 7-4. The win improves the Vikings record to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in Metropolitan Empire League play. The Vikings trailed the Wildcats 4-0 going into the home half of the 3rd inning. Vanden would send all 9 batters in the lineup to the plate in the inning, with 5 of them scoring. The rally started with 2 outs and was capped off by a 3 RBI ground-rule double to centerfield by Caiden Hitchcock. The blast from the freshman put the Vikings up 5-4, a lead they would hold on to. Other notable performances: Lucky Perez (2 for 4, 2 runs scored) and Mateo Gonzalez (2 for 3, RBI, 1 run scored). Anthony Nelson set the tone for the Vikings as the starting pitcher. The sophomore worked around some shaky defense behind him, but did an outstanding job limiting the damage by attacking the strike zone. Nelson hurled 4 innings en route to the win. He allowed 4 runs, 0 earned runs, 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, 4/2 for the finale of their 3-game series at Wood.
