Fairfield, CA — On Wednesday, 4/10 the Vanden JV Vikings hosted the Royals from Armijo High School. The MEL game was played on a beautiful, sunny day and would end with a 9-0 victory for the Vikings. The win lifts their record to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in MEL play. Although the Vikings pushed 9 runs across the plate, there was much to be desired from the offense. The home team was only able to notch 3 hits for the game. Luckily, they were gifted 11 base on balls by Armijo pitchers and 5 of those free baserunners would score. The highlight hit came from Ryan Watson in the 2nd inning. With 2 outs and the bases loaded he squeezed a line drive down the left-field for 2 RBI’s. On the mound, the charge was led by starting pitcher Anthony Nelson. He was credited with the win for his 3 2/3 innings of scoreless work. He allowed only 1 single and struck out 2, while walking 3. The sophomore starter was relieved by freshman Caiden Hitchcock. The big right-hander finished off the game by striking out the final 4 batters. The Vanden JV Vikings return to action on Friday when they travel to Armijo for the series finale.
