Fairfield, CA — On Monday, 4/15 the Vanden JV Vikings were thumped by the Bulldogs from Vacaville High School by a score of 9-0. The loss dips their record to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in MEL play. The Vikings were not able to push any runners around the bases. As a team, they were held to only 2 hits, while striking out 10 times. A tip of our cap goes to the Bulldog pitchers, who dominated on this day. On the other side of the ball, the defense also struggled. Although the team played a solid game for the most part, it only takes one mental miscue that can lead to disaster. Such mistakes are how it can be possible to score 3 runs on a strikeout. On the bump, starting pitcher Ryan Watson gave a valiant effort. He gave the Vikings a chance to compete, but he needed a little help from the troops that never came on this day. The sophomore hurled 5 innings, allowing 7 runs, 3 earned runs, scattered 8 hits, struck out 3 and issued 4 bases on balls. At the end of the day, the Vikings took one on the chin from the Bulldogs. Now is the time to take a deep breath, believe in yourself, believe in your team, believe in the process and get to work. Go Vikes!
