Fairfield, CA — On Monday, 4/22 the Vanden JV Vikings lost its series opener versus league rival Rodriguez High School. The Mustangs would prevail by a score of 9-4, dropping their record to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in MEL play. The Vikings matched the Mustangs with 10 hits, but were not able to match them on the defensive side of the ball. The visitors played a clean game without an error, meanwhile the home team committed 7 errors behind their pitchers. Of the Mustangs 9 total runs only 3 were earned. Starting pitcher, Ryan Watson was not rewarded properly for his efforts. The sophomore would see 6 errors made behind him by the defense, an almost impossible hole to pitch out of. He finished with 4 innings pitched, and allowed 8 runs (3 earned runs), scattered 8 hits, struck out 4 batters and did not issue any base on balls. In the end, Watson would be tagged with the loss but he definitely gave the Vikings a chance to win. Offensively, the Vikings banged 10 hits of their own. The charge was led by freshman Gino Scerbo, who was 3-4 with a run scored. The Vikings also got fence rattling hits from Lucky Perez (1-3, double, 2 RBI) and Caiden Hitchcock (1-1, double, RBI, run scored). Nolan Moore Brewer also joined in finishing the day 2-3, with an RBI and a run scored. The Vikings will look to rebound on Wednesday as the matchup again with the Mustangs. This time at their stables…Go Vikes!
