Pinole, CA — The Vanden JV Vikings lost their season-opening game on Friday afternoon. They were sunk by the Spartans from Pinole Valley High School by a score of 3-1. The Viking pitchers did their part, led by sophomore right-hander Ryan Watson. The starter completed 3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits by the Spartans. Watson struck out 3 while issuing only 1 base on balls. He was followed by Caiden Hitchcock and Dylan Pineda out of the bullpen. The two freshman relievers combined for 6 strikeouts in their 3 innings of work, allowing only 1 run. The Vanden bats were very quiet in this early season matchup with Pinole Valley. They tallied only 3 hits as a team in the game. All three hits were provided by freshmen; Nolan Brewer, Lucky Perez & Gino Scerbo. The JV Vikings will have an opportunity to get back into action right away as they host River City High School on Saturday morning. Game time is 11:00am.
