Burlington, WA — In a challenging away game, the Anacortes Seahawks Boys Varsity Soccer team faced off against the Burlington Tigers, ending in a tough 3-2 defeat. The Seahawks, accustomed to playing on a wider turf field, initially struggled to adjust to Burlington's narrower grass pitch. The shift in playing conditions, coupled with shaking off the effects of Spring Break, contributed to an early setback when a miscommunication in defense led to the first goal for Burlington. Attempting to manage the threat posed by Burlington's fast front runners, the Seahawks started with a strategy of delayed pressure. However, finding themselves a goal down in the second half, they switched to a high-pressure tactic. This shift, though necessary, opened them up to counter-attacks, and one such break from Burlington resulted in a second goal against the Seahawks. In a display of perseverance, the Seahawks narrowed the gap with a goal from Riley Walgamott, who capitalized on a long free kick delivered by Owen Jacobson and flicked on by Jack Eckhardt, who got the assist. Unfortunately, Burlington widened their lead again with a 30-yard rocket that slipped through the grasp of keeper Ashton Gere. With time winding down, the Seahawks earned a penalty kick, which Owen Foley successfully converted, bringing the score to 3-2. In the final minutes, the Seahawks pressed hard and came close with a late chance that just missed its target. This match was not the Seahawks' strongest showing, as they struggled with some sloppy play and found it challenging to establish meaningful possession throughout the match. Despite the loss, the game provided many learnings and valuable experience for building maturity as they move forward in the second half of the season.
