Johnston City, IL — On Wednesday night, the Herrin Lady Tigers softball team lost a heartbreaker to cross-county rival Johnston City 4-3. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Tigers were able to string together three consecutive one-run innings during the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. The one-run lead would be short-lived as Johnston City's first two batters in the fifth inning would rope triples to right field to tie the game up 3-3. Johnston City eventually scored the game-winning run on a fielder's choice to Harley Summers at third base during the frame to take a 4-3 lead for good. Reese Elliott pitched a fantastic game for the Tigers, throwing six innings, giving up 4 hits, 4 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts on 86 total pitches! Outstanding job in the circle to hold one of the area's best offenses in check. Battle back strong and improve each day!
