Riverside, CA — Miller Varsity Rebels beat Rubidoux 7-6 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at six in the top of the sixth when Nate Lora singled, scoring one run. Rubidoux got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, and Cesar Rodriguez singled, scoring two runs. Miller Varsity Rebels tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Liam Good, and a double by Lora. Miller Varsity Rebels took the lead in the top of the fourth. David Trujillo singled, scoring one run, to give Miller Varsity Rebels the advantage, 4-3. Rubidoux jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when an error scored two runs, and Ishmael Rivera-Melchor singled, scoring one run. Miller Varsity Rebels captured the lead, 7-6, in the top of the sixth after Rubidoux committed an error, Ilya Ridge singled, and Lora singled, each scoring one run. Ridge stepped on the mound first for Miller Varsity Rebels. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking five. Emilio Jimenez started on the bump for Rubidoux. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Miller Varsity Rebels piled up 10 hits in the game. Lora provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Miller Varsity Rebels with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Miller Varsity Rebels turned one double play in the game. Rodriguez, Jax Pena, Pedro Valdivia, Rivera-Melchor, and Jimenez each collected one hit for Rubidoux. Jacobe Guzman and Rodriguez each drove in two runs for Rubidoux. Rubidoux stole four bases in the game. Miller Varsity Rebels play at home on Monday against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy Varsity Cougars in their next game.
