Novi, MI — A walk-off left Walled Lake Central Varsity Vikings on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Novi Wildcats Varsity on Saturday. Novi was down 6-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning until Brendon Bennett singled, scoring 2 runs to win 7-6. WLC lost despite out-hitting Novi 7-6. Jack Shaw and Luke Nelson each collected two hits for WLC. WLC opened the scoring in the first after Danny Sheehan hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. A fielder's choice by Brayden Seaver extended the WLC lead to 2-0 in the top of the 2nd inning. Novi tied the game up in the bottom of the 2nd thanks to two singles. Novi tied the game at 2 on a single by Michael Mohtadi. WLC took the lead in the top of the 4th. Shaw singled, scoring one run, to give WLC the advantage, 3-2. Uli Fernsler grounded out, which helped Novi tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the 4th. In the top of the 5th inning, WLC went back into the lead after Nick Campbell singled, and Caden Buckley walked, each scoring one run. Novi captured the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the 7th when Boden Fernsler drew a walk, scoring one run, and Bennett singled, scoring 2 runs. Joshua Olsson stepped on the mound first for WLC. The starting pitcher allowed 3 hits and 2 runs (0 earned) over 2 innings, striking out none and walking 1. Jacob Presher stepped on the mound first for Novi. The starting pitcher gave up 5 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) over 4 innings, striking out 1 and walking 3. Shaw led WLC with 2 runs batted in. The first basemen went 2-3 on the day.
