Cooperstown, NY — Burnt Hills lost the lead late against Cohoes, 7-4 on Thursday at Doubleday Field. Cohoes got on the board in the top of the second inning after Zack Garmely singled, and Nick Sparzo-McBain walked, each scoring one run. Burnt Hills captured the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third when Jack Sunkes drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Cohoes flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 7-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Levi Wood on an 0-2 count that drove in two. Charlie Gendron earned the win for Cohoes. The righty surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking two. Dominick Morey took the loss for the Spartans. The reliever went one-third of an inning, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking one. Maddie Tse started the game for Burnt Hills. She surrendered three hits and two runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. Nick Chicaway stepped on the bump first for the Tigers. He gave up two hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking five. Sunkes led Burnt Hills with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Christopher Puliafico went 2-for-2 with a double at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits. Burnt Hills had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Puliafico and Ben Yerina led the team with two walks each. Yerina also stole two bases. Sparzo-McBain went 1-for-2 at the plate as the leadoff hitter led the team with three runs batted in. Jeremiah Strock, Sparzo-McBain, Garmely, Lukasz Smith, Cooper Benoit, Ty Rogers, and Wood each collected one hit for Cohoes. Sparzo-McBain paced the Tigers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Cohoes turned one double play in the game. Next up for the Burnt Hills Spartans is a game at Bethlehem on Friday.
