Costa Mesa, CA — Today’s contest was an extra match, not counting for league standings, due to the absences of JV teams from both Orange Lutheran and St. John Bosco. Other than some “interesting aromas” wafting from the upwind skate park early on, Costa Mesa Tennis Center is actually a good setup w plenty of viewing spots. We left 2 players to participate w Varsity and had one injured (get that ankle better Enzo), mixed up our lineup and still won 16-2. First, I’d like to recognize an outstanding effort today. Kudos to Johnny Tavares who played (who we all believe was their best player) for an hour and 40 minutes, winning 7-6 (13-11! TB). He broke the other guy’s serve to force a tie-breaker. There were a lot of points w 20+ shots along w some incredible points in the long tie-breaker. Johnny then went out and beat their #3 player 6-1 for a 2 win afternoon. Thomas Gormley also won 2 of 3, losing in the opening round to their strongest player, then soundly defeating his next 2 opponents. MVP honors go to 1 singles player, Michael Aceves, who won all 3 sets of singles 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. Great job today Michael. And MVP honors to the 8 players who swept all 9 doubles sets: Jacob LeBrun and Lucas Johnson, Sam Gou and Robert Thornton, and the Tres Amigos: Sean Do, Logan Lebsack and Luke Krolikowski. Doubles truly dominated, all but 2 sets were won 6-2 or better. You all rocked today! Next match: Monday, March 25th vs Servite, 2:30pm at Fullerton Tennis Center.
