Recap
Susquehanna, PA — SUSQUEHANNA 16, LAKELAND 6
By Tom Robinson
Weston Yannone carried 22 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon as Susquehanna posted its fourth straight victory by defeating visiting Lakeland, 16-6, in a non-league game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams at William Eminger Memorial Field.
Yannone was also part of the defensive effort that did not allow a score. Lakeland’s only points came on a fumble return.
In the seven possessions between its first, and last drive of the day, Lakeland had a net of 23 yards total offense.
Rykin Hobart had two sacks and a third tackle for a loss. Ryder Hobart and William Hobart each had two tackles for losses. Yannone had one interception and William Marcy came up with another in the end zone late in the game.
Susquehanna held on downs at the 9 on the game’s first possession, then scored on its second play when Yannone broke a 91-yard touchdown run.
Lakeland tied the game 6-6 in the second quarter on a 15-yard fumble return by Weston Loomis.
The Sabers controlled the ball most of the rest of the way and used the field position they gained on a long third-quarter drive to come up with the winning points.
Susquehanna moved ahead when a Lakeland punt snap went out of the back of the end zone for his safety.
The savers then drove 80 yards following the kick off. Yannone started the drive with runs of 12 and 13 yards, caught a 20-yard halfback option pass from Marcy and capped the drive on a 5-yard run.
Marcy added the two-point conversion rotten or the 16-6 lead with 1:51 left in the third quarter.
Susquehanna (4-1) travels to division opponent Riverside next Friday while Lakeland (2-3) will try to break their losing streak when they host Dunmore.
