San Juan Capistrano, CA — Our JV girls tennis team remained undefeated this afternoon with a solid 13-5 win over visiting Orange Lutheran. Great way to open Trinity League play. JSerra singles players dominated, taking 8 of 9 sets on the top 3 courts, while doubles captured 5 of 9 sets on courts 4,5,6. MVP’s Dylan Henderson and Sam McCulloch each swept all 3 sets played, well done. Kinsley Moore played well opening up at line 2 with a 6-2 win. Singles play concluded with MVP MIA DeWames winning a well-played tie-breaker set 7-6 (7-4) on court 3. Everybody rushed up to court 6 to watch the final set, a very close doubles contest with Gianna Gancar and Jessica Jenkins challenging the top OLu team. Coming back from 2-4, Gianna and Jessica fought back to 5-5 before bowing out with a 5-7 loss. Great effort though, every game counts. MVP honors in doubles go to the teams of Sydney Shaw / Caitlyn Davidson and Kate Layk / Christina Nama. Both teams won 2 of 2 sets played before stepping off courts to let other team members to participate in a league match. Riley Godber and Arina Wagner won 6-2 in round 2 for our additional doubles win. Kate and Christina beat their top team in round 1 the only win we got against that tough team. That win was key in getting off to a 5-1 set lead which propelled us to a 9-3 set lead after round 2. This lead allowed all JSerra players to participate in a Trinity League match. It gets real now with Mater Dei on Thursday and Santa Margarita next Tuesday. Then “rinse and repeat” before our all Trinity League Tournament at the end of the month. Next up: vs Mater Dei, Thursday at Fountain Valley Tennis & Pickleball Center, 2:15 start time.
