Longhorn defense readies for battle
Vista, CA — The Vista Longhorn's defense, aided by 3-pick six touchdowns bested the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
On Chula Vista's first possession of the game, the scrappy Longhorns took control of the game and did not look back. The Horns established an 8-0 lead before the offense took the field thanks to the first pick-six and successful PAT.
After Chula Vista punted to the Horns, the offense proceeded to go 67 yards in 6 plays to take a 16-0 lead into the 2nd quarter.
The lead grew to an insurmountable 25-0 half time lead on the heels of another interception returned for a touchdown and a 26-yard field goal.
The Vista defense played outstandingly well and accounted for 18 of the teams 30 points.
The large lead gave the Longhorns a chance to rest its starter in preparation of this week's highly anticipated meeting with the Oceanside Battling Pirates. Oceanside, also 2-3 like the Horns, are coming off of a 12-6 victory over the Del Mar Coastal Fighting Bears, formerly known as Torrey Pines.
The winner of this week's game should have an inside track for the #1 seed in the Tomlinson playoff bracket.
Are the young Longhorns up to the test?
Time will tell.
