Recap
Santa Barbara, CA — It was a long hard fought season, but the Santa Clarita Warriors fell to the Santa Barbara Saints on Saturday. We only had 9 teammates show up to play at the game. Showing that our teammates and parents still have a lot to learn about what it means to be on a football team. The boys that were there fought hard and gave it their all.
On offense, playing 9 vs. 11, we still managed to score once and almost a second one as well. Levi had 9 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. He was running into the end zone off or a Jet sweep when the ball squirted out on the 10 yard line untouched. The ball was recovered by the Saints. Dylan threw a pic 6, but our receiver on the play was a retuning "quit" player in Blake Stickles who had never practiced going out for a route on that play. With our first and second string centers out of the game Jack and Brentley had the opportunity to step in and step up.
Defense was fun as we really practiced passes in the second half with the Saints. The brightest spot on the defense on Saturday was clearly Blake Stickles. Blake is still learning the game, but make 6 solo tackles and 2 of which were big tackles for loss. I think Blake there is a good chance we see Blake try his luck off the edge again next season.
It was difficult for the coaches, players, and families to see our season come to an end on Saturday. It was painful to do so with only 9 families. We kept our heads up high and refused to forfeit the playoff game. We were never going to be the biggest team, we were never going to be the fastest, but our goal was to be the team that worked the hardest!
I don't think this will be the last we hear from this new squad. Some will be back, some wont be, and we'll add some new faces. No matter what; we're going to fight every last minute. I'm proud of what we did this season.
More to come...
