Pine Bush Battles Hard but Falls to Newburgh in High-Scoring Contest
Newburgh Free 88, Pine Bush 54
Pine Bush, NY — Pine Bush, NY – The Pine Bush basketball team showed grit and resilience on the court, but in the end, they were overpowered by Newburgh in an 88-54 loss that didn’t quite reflect the true competitiveness of the game.
While the scoreboard suggested a dominant victory for Newburgh, the Bushmen were very much in the fight well into the third quarter. Pine Bush, despite facing a talent-rich opponent, put up a strong showing, especially on the boards, where they out-rebounded Newburgh 32 to 18. It was a sign of the team’s hustle and determination, particularly in the paint, where they fought for every possession.
“We’ve got a group of guys who are not backing down, Newburgh is a tough team, but our boys gave it everything they had.” Said the Pine Bush coach. The scoreboard doesn’t tell the full story — they were scrappy and fought hard until the very end.”
The Bushmen's energy was evident in the first half, as they traded baskets with Newburgh and stayed within striking distance. Despite Newburgh’s size and depth, Pine Bush’s defense and rebounding were enough to keep them in the game well into the second half. However, as the game wore on, Newburgh’s superior shooting and fast-paced transition game began to take its toll. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Newburgh had surged ahead with a comfortable lead, but the Bushmen’s early efforts weren’t lost on those who saw the game unfold.
The rebounding battle was one of the few areas where Pine Bush had the upper hand. “Our guys really worked for those rebounds,” “It wasn’t easy, but we knew that if we kept working hard, it would make a difference.”
Despite the lopsided final score, Pine Bush was far from discouraged. “We were competitive for most of the game,” “We’ve got a lot of young guys who are learning and growing. We’ll use this as motivation and keep working to get better every day.”
Newburgh, led by their high-scoring guard trio, proved too much in the end, but Pine Bush’s performance was a testament to their resilience and potential. While the loss stings, the Bushmen showed that they can compete with some of the best teams in the league — and that’s a foundation they can build on moving forward.
Pine Bush will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue to grow and develop through a challenging schedule. The future is bright for a team that has already shown it can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the league.
