Millbrae, CA — In a thrilling breakthrough moment for our team, Sequoia Varsity secured its first win of the season with a 41-40 nail-biter against Cristo Rey (San Jose). After trailing 15-24 at halftime, the Ravens refused to give. An energetic 3rd quarter helped us cut the lead to just 2, with our stifling defense limiting Cristo Rey to only 4 points during the quarter.
In the 4th, Sequoia took a 9-point lead with 3 minutes left, but Cristo Rey made a strong comeback, going up by 1 point with 40 seconds to go. With the game on the line, Senior forward Jill Gladstone drove through the press defense, delivering an incredible pass for the game-winning shot to another Senior forward Jada Crockett. The Sequoia defense held strong in the final moments, blocking 2 crucial attempts to secure the victory.
This win is a true example of "Progress Over Perfection." While we face challenges, we continue to grow as a team, and this victory shows the power of our collective effort. Freshman guard Olivia Macuga finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Sophomore guard Ally Petit finished with 8 points and 3 assists. Senior Jada Crockett finished with 7 points and 15 rebounds. The team finished with 68 rebounds, 12 assists, and 8 steals. Another highlight of our game was our infections energy - our team logged 267 touches (high 5s and fist bumps), reinforcing the camaraderie that fuels our success. This is just the beginning and we're excited to keep building together!
