Mountaineers Skate to a 2-2 Tie With the Tomahawks

Westborough, MA — Goaltending and defense were abundant on Wednesday night and offense was hard to come by, resulting in a 2-2 tie for Wachusett.
Kevin Shaw stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced as he remained undefeated (5-0-1) this season in net for Wachusett. The Algonquin goalie was just as impressive stopping 29 of Wachusett's 31 shots.
Algonquin started the scoring at the 6:52 mark of the first period and that 1-0 lead would last through the 2nd intermission.
Wachusett came out with a lot more intensity in the third period and established a lot of offensive zone time. At 3:22, Cody Penniman broke the ice on an assist from Travis Laidlaw to tie the score at 1.
A couple minutes later, Wachusett found themselves on the power play and senior captain, Matt Bjorkman cleaned up a rebound out front and found the back of the net at 6:08 of the third with assists going to Penniman and Ethan Bennett.
The lead didn't last long as Wachusett was shorthanded and Algonquin capitalized on their power play tying the score at 2 at the 7:38 mark of the third.
The teams both had chances in the final moments as well as the 4 on 4 overtime period, but neither team could score, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
Wachusett is still unbeaten in their last 5 games and have an overall record of 8-1-1 on the season.
