Wachusett Upends GD's Senior Night With 6-2 Win

Groton, MA — On Saturday, Wachusett traveled to the Groton School in a rematch of the first game of the season against Roy Conference opponent Groton-Dunstable.
After a scoreless first period, Wachusett erupted for 4 straight goals in the second period.
The first was a power play goal at 1:55 scored by Matt Brousseau capitalizing on a rebound of a Jake Penniman shot from the point. Caden Lane also earned an assist. The second goal at 4:10 was scored by senior forward Shea Whalen who went hard to the net and buried a nice pass from senior captain Matt Bjorkman. At 5:36 and 9:50, Travis Laidlaw would score two consecutive power play goals. The first was assisted by Bjorkman and Cody Penniman. The second was assisted by Ryan Flaherty and Matt Brousseau.
GD would get one back with only 19 seconds remaining in the period to go into the second intermission 4 to 1.
GD came out hot in the third and took it to Wachusett for the first few minutes. They scored just 2:37 into the period to close the lead to 4 to 2 and they had an opportunity to inch closer with a questionable penalty shot called a couple minutes later, but Kevin Shaw came up big with the stop.
From there Wachusett took control back, scoring at 8:52 and 13:06. The first was a breakaway scored by Cody Penniman on a great feed from sophomore defenseman Patrick Vallee. The last goal of the night was scored by Ryan Flaherty assisted by Cody Penniman.
Kevin Shaw made 15 saves in the win to remain undefeated in net for Wachusett. Kevin is 7 and 0 this season.
With the win, the team remained undefeated in the Roy Conference at 7 and 0 with one conference game remaining on Monday against Nashoba.
