Recap
Pembroke, MA — Wachusett traveled to Scituate on Monday to take on the Sailors who are ranked 4th in the state among Division III teams. They certainly looked like a top team scoring 3 goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
Scituata would extend the lead to 4-0 at the 1:45 mark of the second before Wachusett would get on the board. Junior Ryan Flaherty took a feed from Cody Penniman and buried it to close the score to 4-1 at the 11:15 mark of the frame. Just 1 minute later, Junior Aiden Boyce would pull Wachusett within 2 (4-2) as he fought for space in front of the net and backhanded a pass from Matt Bjorkman into the upper corner of the net. Wachusett seemed to be generating the momentum, but Scituate would score on a 5-minute major power play with just 1:40 left in the second to take a 5-2 lead into the 2nd intermission.
After killing off the rest of the major penalty, Wachusett would score at the 2:04 mark of the third to pull the score to 5-3. Travis Laidlaw one timed a pass from Penniman to the back of the net. Tanner Watkins earned an assist on the goal head manning the puck to Penniman.
Although Wachusett played very well in the third and generated many shots and opportunities, they just couldn't muster another goal. The Mountaineers pulled the goalie with about 2 minutes left, but Scituate capitalized on a turnover and scored an empty net goal with 57 seconds left to finish the scoring at 6 -3.
The loss drops Wachusett to 14-4-1 on the season as they look ahead to their last game of the season at home on Thursday at 1:30 pm at NorthStar.
