Westborough, MA — The Borough's Cup is an annual tradition at NorthStar Ice Sports where Wachusett, Algonquin, Westboro and Marlboro have been competing in the two-game tournament for over 30 years. Wachusett would score the first six goals of the game against a young Marlboro squad and would end up winning the first round game 7 to 1. The Mountaineers scored four times in the first period on goals by Caden Lane, Travis Laidlaw and Shea Whalen, who netted two goals just 15 seconds apart. Ryan Flaherty and Matt Brousseau added goals in the second period and after Marlboro scored at the 6:16 mark in the third to make the score 6 to 1, Zach Hoadley scored his first career goal just 13 seconds later to finish the scoring at 7 to 1. Picking up assists on the night were Matt Brousseau (1), Ryan Flaherty (1), Matt Bjorkman (2), Aiden Boyce (1), Ethan Bennett (1), Colin Carlson (1), Patrick Vallee (1), Kevin O'Keefe (1) and Jake Penniman (1). Kevin Shaw improved to 2 and 0 in net stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced. Wachusett will advance to the finals on Saturday against Westboro. The Rangers beat Algonquin 4-3 in OT.
